One Book One Island
I am from Brazil and have been on Nantucket for four years. I came because my sister was here. Now I have a sister and a brother here.
I like the place, it is very nice. I like my job, I like the beaches. Where I am from in Brazil is the country, I lived on a farm and there are no beaches. My mother lives in the west and the beaches are in the north. So I like the beaches, they are nice, nice everything, really. I go fishing here with my boyfriend sometimes.

I love it here. I go off island and am driving around and am crazy for back here.
Nantucket is very nice for jobs. My business is for cleaning the house and I do some hair dressing. I send money home to my mother, and my brother can’t work. Because of the money we make here, it is very different than Brazil. My mother can’t make the kind of money we make.
Everybody comes here for four or five years to make a lot of money and then go back home. I came here for work too, in the beginning. But then I met my boyfriend and I change my ideas. I think I’m gonna live here all of my life. I mean, nobody knows the future, but this is the nicest place I have been in my life.
